•EIF5A2 is overexpressed in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.•High level of EIF5A2 promotes the progression of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.•Targeting EIF5A2 can inhibit ICC cells proliferation and invasion in vitro.•EIF5A2 activates the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway to promote tumor cell invasion.
