A Novel Modeling Method to Estimate the Heat Transfer Characteristics of Supercritical Rp-3 with Pyrolysis

The heat transfer mechanism of hydrocarbon fuels is very significant for the design of the cooling structure. This paper investigated the supercritical heat transfer characteristics of aviation kerosene RP-3 with cracking reactions and put forward a novel method to establish a new empirical correlation model to overestimate the heat transfer characteristics. The results indicated that the thermal properties and chemical heat absorption together affect the heat transfer of the heated fluid with pyrolysis. Besides, the chemical heat absorption has a dimensionless influence on the heat transfer characteristics of hydrocarbon fuels because of the secondary reactions and the non-linear relationship of the chemical reaction rate with components and concentrations of reactants as well as the temperature of the fluid. Based on the considerable errors between the numerical results and these results obtained from the existing empirical correlations, a novel correlation model is developed and can predict the heat transfer of RP-3 over a large range of conversions under supercritical conditions.
