Abstract
Batik is one of the textile industry products that use textile dyes in the batik production process.Textile dye waste produced is non-biodegradable waste that can cause environmental pollution. This pollution can be overcome by adsorption of activated carbon using one of the raw materials of mangrove wood (Rhizophora mucronata). The purpose of this activated carbon manufacture is to determine the optimum conditions and the adsorption kinetics of mangrove activated carbon as an adsorbent for dark blue textile dye code 5.This study was carried out with physical activation at a temperature of 500 ºC and chemical activation using 10% H 3 PO 4 activator. The yield of activated carbon obtained is 60.4% and has met the quality standard of activated carbon according to SNI 06-3730-1995.The resulting activated carbon was characterized using SEM-EDX with a magnification of 5000x which indicates that the pore structure of the unactivated carbon has not been completely formed, while the pores on the activated carbon have been completely formed. The adsorption test of activated carbon in mangroves against dark blue textile dye code 5 reached the optimum condition with the addition of an adsorbent mass of 0.1 grams at pH 3 with a contact time of 120 minutes and an adsorbate concentration of 100 mg/L.The dark blue textile dye adsorption model code 5 tends to follow the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.96.
