Contrasting trends between peak photosynthesis timing and peak greenness timing across seven typical biomes in Northern Hemisphere mid-latitudes

•Few attempts are made to compare peak photosynthesis timing (PPT) at the flux site.•Fitting methods and the property of plants have a significant impact on the PPT.•The peak greenness timing (PGT) and PPT showed a contrary trend at used sites.•Previous trending and attributing studies about PPT should be viewed with caution.
