摘要
parents.AYAs were evenly divided between male and female and White and non-White.Parents were mostly female, White, and educated.Of the 32 AYAs interviewed, only 5 (16%) had discussed death and EOL decisions. The other 27 AYAs cited "not wanting to talk about it" or "hoping for the best."Parents stated that "it was not wise to tell everything," with "protection" being a common theme. Some AYAs acknowledged there were things they wanted to discuss but were too fearful. Those that had open discussions stated that "it made it easier to deal with," gave them "peace," and "made them feel more confident with their decision."Conclusion(s).AYAs and parents have mixed opinions about discussing death, reflecting the existence of both hope and realism within families.Impact.Understanding families' and AYAs' preferences regarding communication at EOL will help guide difficult conversations.
