•DEHP and DBP intrauterine co-exposure was very common in Chinese pregnant women.•DEHP and DPB were evaluated as weak embryotoxic chemicals by hEST.•DBP triggered PPARγ and induced apoptosis via PTEN/Akt pathway.•The cumulative risk assessment suggested more attention should be paid in pregnant women.
