Broad-band cyan emission induced by two-locations of Eu2+ activator for a new phosphor BaLa2Y2(SiO4)(3)O: Eu2+ br

Making a more in-depth investigation of the structure-property relations of luminescent materials is not only theoretical but also a practical issue for developing more developed phosphors in this field. This contribution presented a new luminescent material Ba1-xLa2Y2(SiO4)3O: xEu2+, synthesized by the high-temperature solidphase reaction method. The optimal Eu2+ concentration is x = 0.04, and the concentration quenching is caused by the energy transfer between Eu2+ cations. In Ba1-xLa2Y2(SiO4)3O: xEu2+, Eu2+ dopants may substitute in two distinct Ba2+ sites, and these two sites can produce different coordination environments, creating an emission band spanning over 420 650 nm with the CIE points lying in the cyan region. By using the Gaussian fitting method, this band can be divided into two components at 491 and 524 nm. Furthermore, temperature-dependent emission spectra and decay curves were used to evaluate the thermal stability of BaLa2Y2(SiO4)3O:0.04Eu2+. The achievement of this work is to provide a new cyan phosphor for LED applications.
