•oGH and oLH acted synergistically to restore GSI and ovarian morphology in females.•ghr2 expression was higher in ovary than in testis.•Gonadal igf3 was increased by oGH and oLH in both sexes.•Ovarian erβ and arβ levels were restored by a combination of oGH and oLH.•Muscle and hepatic ghr2 were more responsive to oGH in males versus females.
