Association of diabetes mellitus with gait and falls in community-dwelling older adults: Serial mediation of vision and cognition

•Impaired gait speed and falls are associated with diabetes mellitus.•Visual and cognitive function may partially mediate the association of diabetes mellitus with gait and falls.•Intervention targeted at vision and the cognition may be beneficial for improving gait or reducing falls in older adults with diabetes mellitus.
