The purpose of this study is to facilitate an ongoing discussion for researchers and practitioners to explore implementation of advanced technologies in the next generation of manufacturing, and the wider implications of Industry 4.0 in Aggregate Production Planning and Scheduling. It analyses the current state, challenges, and future prospects of Aggregate Production Planning and Scheduling in light of the emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and cyber physical systems. Moreover, it presents discussion on why Aggregate Production Planning and Scheduling should adapt to the Industry 4.0 environment. The study found acceptance of Industry 4.0 technology in Aggregate Production Planning and Scheduling in industrialized countries, however the transition is slow due to certain limitations of the emerging technologies in the industrial process.
