摘要
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an effective and safe treatment for intractable chronic pain.1 Recent advancements have sparked further research on its mode of action.2 Animal models of neuropathic pain demonstrated that neuroinflammation and central sensitization play a fundamental role in its persistence. This line of work has proven that SCS can be used to modulate pain-related biological processes.3-5 Clinical validation of hypotheses formulated from animal work is hindered by the availability of tissue samples, thus relying on fluid samples, such as cerebrospinal fluid and blood. This work provides preliminary results of protein profiling of blood samples from subjects responding to conventional SCS for a period of one year.
