•Southwestern Sinai is considered the main source of kaolin deposits in Egypt.•The Lower Cretaceous Malha Formation is kaolinite-bearing.•Samples comprise kaolinite, quartz, anatase, and hematite.•Kaolinite underwent calcination to High Reactive Metakaolinite.•Cement substitution by MK at 10% improves the mechanical properties of the concrete.
