•Six new Anils A-F were sonochemically synthesized and their structural and photophysical properties were investigated.•The high florescence of E and F was explored by their absorption and emission spectra in ethanol medium.•Preliminary optical Study of Substituent Effects on Cation Sensing in liquid medium has been carried out.•Fluorogenic and chromogenic sensing abilities of A-F towards Fe2+, Cr3+, Cu2+, Co2+, Mn2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+ ions were proved.
