Effectiveness of light therapy as adjunctive treatment in bipolar depression: A pilot study

•In bipolar depression, 50-60% of patients respond to first-line treatments, and 35-40% achieve a complete remission•Treatments for bipolar depression should be adapted in special populations (ex. elderly patients, patients with kidney or liver disease) and can leave depressive symptoms•Bright Light Therapy (BLT) accelerates therapeutic response without increasing the risk of adverse events•BLT may be used in patients resistant to treatment or to reduce the impact of long-lasting therapies.
