摘要

•Corn cob used as carbon source exhibits excellent denitrification performance as SA.•The compositions of DOC released from AWs were quantified by EEM-PARAFAC.•Electron released from enzymolysis of AWs was the driving force for denitrification.•Dissimilatory nitrate reduction also proceed when AWs were used as carbon sources.•Proposed nitrogen removal microbial mechanism was verified by correlation analysis.
