Kinematic Changes in Gait in Boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy: Utility of the Gait Deviation Index, the Gait Profile Score and the Gait Variable Scores

•Boys with DMD have gait abnormalities prior to the age of seven.•GDI, GPS and GVS are able to identify changes in the quality of gait patterns.•The rate of decline in gait quality is slower in boys on corticosteroids.•GVS can provide insight into changes in joint kinematics with disease progression.•Kinetic indices, similar to the GVS, would be useful in understanding DMD gait.
