摘要
Wave energy harvesting is an alternative energy technology that converts wave energy into electricity from a sustainable, naturally replenished, and predictable source of energy. This form of renewable energy is an attractive solution for generating power from an inexhaustible energy resource while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Focusing on Southeast Asian countries, this paper provides a general overview of the wave energy potential and converter technologies available in the region. Given that Southeast Asia has over 25,000 islands, many of which are rural and unconnected to the national grid system, rural island electrification remains a critical issue. Regardless, the availability and viability of wave energy harvesting are dependent on the wave energy converter and its strategic location. Therefore, obtaining accurate and reliable wave data is a critical step in determining the best location for converter deployment. Further discussions on previous studies on wave energy technology projects carried out in this region are then classified by each country in terms of the technology used, power take-off system components, performance, project status, and intended location.
