Advancement in the Internet of Things (IoT) has become the state-ofthe-art technology and marketing trend among researchers due to the availability of the internet everywhere. Beyond the hype, IoT application has shown significant contribution from small to large scale applications in many fields. The IoT involves diverse devices inter-connected and produces vast data in the unit of minutes or even seconds. For the majority of situations, IoT devices produce point data with high timeliness requirements but relatively simple operations. To better cope with IoT point data in actual application scenarios, we propose a design of a twolayer index structure for a quick query of spatiotemporal data, and further reveal a meta-heuristic optimization strategy to overcome the limitations of data skew. The experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate that our method has a good efficiency in handling IoT point data.
