A Combined Detection for Debonding in Honeycomb Sandwich Structure Based on Air-coupled Guided Wave and C-scan

This paper proposed a combined detection for debonding in Honeycomb Sandwich Structures (HSS) based on air-coupled guided wave and through-transmission C-scan. In this method, the propagation behavior of ultrasonic guided wave in HSS was studied based on simulation model and guided wave was used to scan the HSS in two directions to position the debonding damage in a rectangular area. After that, C-scan based on longitudinal wave was performed on this rectangular area, and unit reconstruction method based on the hexagonal characteristics of the honeycomb core was proposed to quantify the debonding area accurately. The result shows that this combined method can locate and quantify debonding area rapidly and accurately.
