New members of a class of cyclometalated 1,3-di-(2-pyridyl)benzene platinum(II) complexes bearing a tetrazole-thiolate ancillary ligand

•Two novel complexes, [Pt(5-R-dpyb)(1-phenyl-1H-tetrazole-5-thiolate)] (R = methyl, 2-thienyl) have been prepared and fully characterized.•In N^C^N platinum(II) complexes, the use of 1-phenyl-1H-tetrazole-5-thiolate instead of chloride as ancillary ligand can lead to excellent quantum yields, approaching unity.•In platinum(II) complexes bearing a cyclometalated 1,3-di(2-pyridyl)benzene, the effect of thiolates co-ligands is really intriguing and merits further investigations.
