摘要
This study aimed to assess knowledge and attitude of use of non-herbal dietary supplements and their impact on their usage pattern among chronic cardiovascular disease patients. This was a cross-section-al study where 134 patients were conveniently sampled from 169 patients based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study was conducted using a pre-validated, self-administered questionnaire, designed after an extensive literature review. Study subjects had moderately good knowledge about non-herbal dietary supple-ments usage (mean knowledge score 3.9 (+/- 4.639) and majority had relatively positive attitude (n= 77, 57.5%) towards non-herbal dietary supplements usage. This study found a strong positive correlation between the knowledge and attitude scores (r = 0.892, p < 0.05). Elderly and high incomed patients had higher knowledge and positive attitude scores compared to the rest (p = 0.011). The moderate knowledge and appropriate at-titude towards non-herbal dietary supplements still emphasized the role of healthcare providers especially pharmacists to increase awareness about the benefits of non-herbal dietary supplements among CVD patients.
