摘要
The recent surge in air travel demand has emphasized the importance of providing proper passengers’ access for transportation planners and policy-makers. The rise in private car usage has resulted in increased traffic in cities and suburbs, causing environmental concerns such as air pollution. This highlights the need for public transportation, particularly rail and metro systems. This paper examines the effects of the metro employment on ground access to two airports in the Tehran multi-airport region, namely Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA) and Mehrabad International Airport (MIA). Two surveys were conducted, one of which was revealed-preference and the other was stated-preference, totaling 4001 respondents. The surveys were carried out through face-to-face interviews in October 2010, May, and June 2011. Comparing the outcomes of the 1021 revealed-preference interviews and the 2980 stated-preference interviews reveals that 21.5% and 23.3% of passengers, respectively, prefer to use the metro to access MIA and IKIA. Additionally, roughly 9% of passengers prefer shuttle vans to access these airports.
