An Innovative Method for Building the Model of Oxidation Resistance of Cr Coatings

The oxidation resistance of Cr coating is influenced by the coating thickness and oxidation time. A highthroughput method is proposed to build a model reflecting the thickness effect. The wide range of thickness gradient coating was deposited by magnetron sputtering. Oxidation behavior of series of Cr coatings demonstrate that coating thickness greater than 10.7 mu m are partially protective and 16.0 mu m are fully protective after being oxidized in 1200 degrees C for 50 min. The predictions are in good agreement with the experimental results and the reported literature.
