Voice Monitoring System for Vocal Dose Measurement in Daily Life

An accumulation of vocal fatigue due to excessive vocalization causes diseases such as vocal cord nodules and polyps. Continuous observation of the voice condition is known to prevent the diseases. However, a normal microphone for voice measurement has the fatal drawback of recording ambient noise simultaneously. In this paper, we introduce a neck-attached voice monitoring sensor. The sensor measures the vibration of contacted area, so it is robust against ambient noise. In addition, a random noise was effectively removed through an embedded adaptive filter. As a result, the sensor can continuously measure voice signals in daily life without ambient noise. Also, vocal fatigue can be quantified through fundamental frequency and intensity analysis of measured voice.
