The growing demands for steel to meet the industrial and constructional requirements have increased the burden on the steel manufacturing industries. Typical steel plants utilize either an Electric arc furnace (EAF) or Induction Furnace (IF) for the smelting and refining process. The chaotic nature of electric arc furnace operation and nonlinear device in an induction furnace injects various power quality disturbances such as Harmonics and Voltage flicker. This paper presents the modeling of Electric arc furnaces using the Cassie-Mayr approach and investigates the power quality disturbances based on the simulation of Electric arc furnaces and induction furnaces and also presents the different mitigation techniques. The simulation studies are carried out using MATLAB/Simulink
