Pollution loads due to excessive industrialization have resulted in the deterioration of the environment quality. Recalcitrant chemical compounds in the ecosystem pose a serious threat to living organisms. The biological methodology is a promising and eco-friendly approach that gains a significant substitute in degrading pollutants without affecting the quality of the environment. Microbes are ubiquitously distributed in the divergent environment, and their enzymatic machinery can be exploited to transform toxic chemicals into nontoxic and degradable forms. Nowadays, various omics methods have been used to study the diversity of microbes in their natural niche and also monitor the mechanism of microbial activity in the bioremediation process. The present chapter focuses on the importance of microbial enzymes in the detoxification of xenobiotics and the efficacy of modern multi-omics techniques in exploring the microbial communities to know the structural and functional characteristics of the bioremediation process.
