The development of in situ techniques for electrochemical mate-rials is of particular significance for revealing the mechanisms of energy devices. In a recent issue of Nature Energy, Zhang et al. revealed the charge storage mechanisms by tracking the in situ changes in capacitive materials using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy.
