•Of the three taxa studied, mammals had the highest levels of predation.•Arthropod predation was higher at edge, in abandoned habitats and elevated areas.•Mammal predation increases with understory coverage but decreases with elevation.•Overall predation pressure was higher at the edge habitats than within interiors.•Enhancing undergrowth coverage and edge habitats promote natural predators.
