Harnessing Tryptophan Metabolizers to Protect Neurodevelopment From Prenatal Stress

Essential cross-talk between the immune and serotonergic system in utero is disturbed by prenatal stress (PNS), increasing placental tryptophan (Trp) and serotonin (5HT) in a microbe- and C-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 2 (CCL2)- dependent mechanism in our model. We further find reductions in the Trp metabolizer Parasutterella in our model. Therefore, we examined whether replacing Parasuteralla excrementihominis in the dam can prevent the deleterious effect of PNS.
