•The beta frequency strongest associated with motor slowing may differ from the individual beta peak at rest or largest movement-modulation frequency.•The timing of beta bursts and triggering of adaptive deep brain stimulation differ across varying frequencies in the beta range.•A clinical neurophysiological interrogation step can optimize the feedback signal selection for adaptive deep brain stimulation.
