Post-storm Management Determines Early Tree Species Composition and Browsing Intensity in Regenerating Beech Forest

•Intensive salvage logging resulted in a high proportion of early-seral tree seedlings.•Tree cover and richness of regeneration were similar, irrespective of post-storm management.•Roe deer browsing on one-year-old oaks decreased with increasing deadwood-amount.•Browsing by voles and mice increased with increasing deadwood-amount.
