Patterns of cervical cancer screening follow-up in the era of prolonged screening intervals

•Little is known about compliance with repeat screening intervals since revised screening guidelines.•Of 5,368,713 patients identified, the cumulative incidence of repeat screening among all women by seven years was 81.9%.•In this cohort, there was inconsistent adherence to evidence-based cervical cancer screening guidelines with significant over screening.
