Tribological and Rheological Properties of Trimethylolpropanetrioleate Based Environmentally Adapted Grease

Bio-derived lubricants, especially produced from oleic acid, are considered to be the potential alternative of conventional non-renewable lubricants because of its low cost and most abundant amount found in nature. In this regard, this work explores for the very first time, the consideration of environmentally friendly trimethylolpropanetrioleate (TMPTO) as a base oil produced by esterification of oleic acid with trimethylolpropane in the presence of amberlyst 15 as a catalyst to develop eco-friendly grease. The tribological and rheological performance of the novel TMPTO oil-based calcium grease was investigated and compared with the mineral oil-based calcium grease. The friction coefficient value of TMPTO oil-based grease became lower by 19.14
