•Parameters from ground LiDAR and UAV photogrammetry were highly correlated.•The correlations were higher when analysing larger row sections.•The values of the parameters extracted with the ground LiDAR were always higher.•Differences between point clouds were affected by the crop training system.•Specificities of each system make them best suited for different applications.
