High Lipoprotein(a) Does Not Improve Risk Prediction of Coronary Calcium in a Low–Intermediate Risk Cohort With a Family History of Premature Coronary Artery Disease

The Australian Cardiovascular Risk calculator (ACVDR) does not incorporate family history of premature coronary disease (FHPCAD) and may underestimate risk in this cohort. Lipoprotein(a) [LP(a)] is an established, heritable CVD risk factor with prothrombotic effects independent of atherosclerotic burden. We evaluated whether LP(a) is associated with premature calcific atherosclerosis in a low-intermediate risk cohort with FHPCAD.
