摘要
The phytochemical profile, antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of extracts of Piper betel, Salem cultivar leaves were investigated. Sodium (3000 ppm) and calcium (6600 ppm) were high, which may be attributed to the soil conditions. High phenolic content (48.0 mg GAE g-1) in acetone extract and flavonoid content (25.3 mg RE g-1) in dichloromethane extract were observed. This may be due to the usage of polarity-varying solvents. Methanol extract demonstrated high DPPH radical scavenging activity, which may be due to the combined effects of polyphenol and metal-chelating activity. Acetone extract demonstrated antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli.
