An evidence base of ecosystems services provided by diadromous fish in the European Atlantic Area

•Apply a matrix approach of species × ecosystem service contributions to aid management decisions.•Local expert knowledge is combined with reviewed evidence on ecosystem service contributions.•Diadromous species provide a suite of ecosystem services that non-diadromous species cannot replace.•Combining expert local knowledge with literature review enhances the evidence base.•Provide a tool to support wider discussion with policy, the private sector and civil society.
