Formation of calcium-phosphate-based coatings on titanium by laser-induced deposition in liquid environment

•Laser-induced deposition (LID) was developed to synthesize CaP/Zn coating on Ti.•The recast layer acted as an interfacial layer between coating and substrate.•CaP/Zn deposits provide antibacterial activity against E. coli.•Coatings exhibited good bioactivities owing to the high surface area of deposits.
