Surface functionalization of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles for dispersion and tribological applications – A review

The surface functionalization of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) is reviewed systematically, highlighting their dispersion and tribological applications. The outlines of the synthesis and surface functionalization strategies of metal and metal oxide NPs are presented. The dispersibility test methods and tribological applications of metal and metal oxide NPs are discussed. Possible future research hotspots and challenges in the field are suggested.
