Functional magnetic nanoparticles: from synthesis design to in-depth characterization and nano-labelling for ultrasensitive magnetic biosensing

The detection of disease specific biomarkers such as proteins and nucleic acids has recently received increased attention with the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. One of the innovative medical sensing nanotechnologies is based on the change in dynamic magnetic behaviour of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) upon binding to a specific biological target. Here, we present and analyze tricomponent MNPs for magnetic immunoassays (MIAs). The MNPs remain monodisperse before and after coating with a functional polymer and exhibit suitable magnetic properties for MIAs.
