摘要
Lipid metabolism plays an important role in biological and biopathological processes. Lipogenesis, lipolysis, oxidation, ketolysis, ketogenesis, lipid oxidation, and peroxidation are the major reactions in lipid metabolism. All the products or intermediates from the lipid metabolism are called lipid metabolites, which are also affected by the gut microbiota of the host. On the other hand, different lipid intake also shapes the composition of gut microbiota. With the development of detection and analysis technology of chemicals, more lipid metabolites are found which are involved in the incidence of disease. In this chapter, the specific lipid metabolites associated with cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disease will be discussed. Lipid metabolites raise a growing interest as potential biomarkers in many clinical conditions, which provide new therapeutic opportunities to treat metabolic diseases. In this chapter, the specific lipid metabolites associated with cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disease will be discussed.
