The Canadian Mosaic lives on: supporting immigrants in transitioning to the local labour market

This chapter explores the origins and application of the Canadian Mosaic as a multicultural paradigm for Canada’s approach to immigrant newcomers. The Mosaic’s applicability is then described from the perspectives of three senior leaders of the Intercultural Association of Greater Victoria, a multiservice immigrant welcoming and learning center, in British Columbia, Canada. The interview then explores challenges and rewards of life and career transitions of newcomers and the importance of mentoring and developmental networks in enabling these cultural and identity transitions. The chapter proceeds with reactions to the 5C Career Success Dimensions Model and views on ICA’s accomplishments and vision for the future before framing chapter themes in scholarly context prior to offering reflection questions.
