MA01.06 Retrospective Analysis of Intrapleural Administration of Hypotonic Cisplatin for Malignant Pleural Effusions with Non-Expandable Lung

Symptomatic malignant pleural effusions (MPEs) often require therapeutic drainage, and subsequent chemical pleurodesis is warranted after successful re-expansion of the lung. However, pleurodesis may be of limited efficacy for patients with trapped lung, and palliative thoracentesis or drainage can be the only treatment option in this subgroup. Thus, more disease-modifying means to control MPEs with non-expandable lung are strongly needed. Intrapleural chemotherapeutic agent such as hypotonic cisplatin was reported to be useful in MPEs with expandable lung, but little is known about its efficacy in cases with non-expendable lung.
