Presence of Renewable Resources in a Smart City for Supplying Clean and Sustainable Energy

Nowadays, the world heavily depends on the use of fossil fuels such as oil and coal, which can be a serious threat to the future of the planet and humanity. Fossil fuel consumption can cause irreversible effects such as air pollution, environmental degradation, and climate change. According to studies, carbon dioxide (CO2) content in the air is currently at its highest level and global warming has recently increased unprecedentedly. Moreover, glacier melting and sea level rise are among other problems of climate change. Accordingly, using renewable energy sources is of great importance and has received considerable attention. Renewable energy sources are clean and do minimum damage to the environment. Furthermore, these sources are inexhaustible and can be used for many years to come. Presently, the world is moving towards increasing the use of renewable energy. Undoubtedly, renewable energies will play an important role in supplying human energy in the near future. Applying renewable energy can be among the most effective ways for having a sustainable city and providing opportunities for energy security, socioeconomic development, and reduction of climate change and environmental impact. Deep and rapid penetration of renewable energy technologies into a smart city is convenient at different scales and can provide a secure foundation for a modern society with low-carbon economy (LCE). The smart urban network is an effective way for integrating renewable energy sources with the existing urban network system, which could bring forth environmental benefits as well as sustainable development and sustainability as well as diversity of energy resources. The present study aims to integrate renewable energies and examines how their presence can provide a sustainable solution in a smart city.
