1: Binocular Fusion and Rivalry of Binocular Tone Mapping in Stereoscopic Displays

Binocular fusion and rivalry are indispensable considerations when simulating the real world. The improvement of these two factors is one of the keys to improving three‐dimensional display technology. Based on three visual perception experiments, physiological binocular fusion and rivalry for improving stereo image quality are investigated. The results show that different dynamic ranges modulated by the binocular tone mapping algorithm for each eye result in better stereo image quality and have no significant effect on stereoscopic perception. The study provides a way to enhance the quality of stereoscopic displays based on the human factor.
