The lacustrine Anthracosia Shales o f the Intra-Sudetic Basin are sediments that have become the subject o f interest due to their dark colour, indicating an increased content o f dispersed organic matter.The published data concern the characteristics o f macerals, vitrinite reflectance, the results ofRock-Eval pyrolysis and the results ofpalynological tests.The above studies were supple mented with the current analysis o f the extracted bitumens.The results o f the distribution o f n-alkanes in the Anthracosia Shales corre sponds with the results o f macerals andpalynology.The dominance o f short-chain homologues indicates the microbial-algal origin o f the organic matter.Some contribution o f terrestrial organic matter is not excluded.Three lithofacies intervals differing geochemically have been distinguished: I -dark grey calcareous claystones rich in aliphatic compounds o f microbial and algal origin; II -grey mudstones with siderites containing a lower amount o f aliphatic compounds in favour ofpolar and aromatic compounds; III -w ea kly calcareous mudstones and sandstones, poor in terrestrial organic matter.The distribution o f n-alkanes, phenanthrene and methylphenanthrenes (CPI, MPI, MPR, PP1) shown that the maturity o f the organic substance is within the oil window.This is further supported by the Rock-Eval data and vitrinite reflectance values.
