Stem cells in the management of phospholipase-mediated metabolic disorders

Phospholipases that act on the membrane phospholipids cleave the acyl-ester bonds and the products formed by the action of these enzymes have different physiological functions, modes of action, and also possess distinct regulatory mechanisms. In this chapter, we will briefly discuss the role of various phospholipases in the development of different metabolic disorders and also mention the role of stem cells in their treatment. We will review the pathogenesis and current treatment strategies for metabolic disorders like obesity, diabetes mellitus, and fatty liver. We will summarize the regenerative therapeutic approaches to treat these disorders, and the different types of stem cells used for their management.
