Coming Together Across Differences: The Uniting Role of Social Justice in Science Education

This chapter explores how we, the authors, have come together in dialogue and across differences to conceptualise how working towards social justice in science education can serve as a uniting perspective to bridge contexts. This process of coming together can support striving towards a science education practice grounded on equity, inclusion, and justice. We situate our perspectives through a brief overview of our work and then discuss what we are learning from coming together across a range of differences and how that as a process has brought us collectively to an understanding of a shared vision for a socially just science education praxis. We hope that this discussion will provide a reader with new perspectives on the ways in which working towards social justice, as a uniting theme to science education, has the potential to transform contexts of learning and support students in developing values important for making informed decisions and taking action.
