Multi-FOV Star Identification Based on Wedge-Shaped Triangle Pattern

A multi-field-of-view (multi-FOV) star identification algorithm based on a wedge-shaped triangle pattern is proposed. This pattern fuses angular distance information both within and between FOV. With a newly reconstructed guide star database and a designed identification process, fast star identification is achieved. It first identifies a star pair in the pattern based on 2-D angular distance grids, enhancing matching efficiency. Then, it uses a recursive method to identify the remaining observed stars, further improving the speed and identification rate. Experimental result shows that compared with existing algorithms, the identification speed of this algorithm is improved by about three times. It has good robustness against various types of noise, with an average identification rate of no less than 95%. Additionally, this algorithm is not limited by size of FOV or angle between FOV, making it highly adaptable.
