Utilization of Supplementary Cementitious Material and Waste Marble Powder in Cement and Concrete for Sustainable Construction

The current work analyses the potential of employing Supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) with waste marble powder for making good quality concrete. In ten different concrete combinations, sand has been partially substituted by marble powder up to 10%, while cement substituted by SCM. For increasing pozzolanic activity in a concrete mixture, two different SCMs i.e. calcined clay and silica fume were employed in concrete mix. Experimental tests such as compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity have been undertaken in order to evaluate different qualities of concrete manufactured from marble powder and SCMs. In addition, in preparing mixed Cement Pastes, marble powder has been utilized as a partial alternative for cement. On mixed cement pastes, setting time tests and soundness were assessed. This displays the strength characteristics of concrete after replacing sand with 10% marble powder, however calcined clay was shown to be more successful relatively to silica fume. The expansion and setting time of cement paste by substitution of cement with powder didn’t show any kind of negative affect.
